Alex and his team are the best kayak instructors I've learned from, by far. After taking lessons from instructors in Chile, Costa Rica, and the United States, I can say that Alex cultivates a learning approach that is extremely informational, professional, and most importantly, safe. Added to the fact that Tena rivers and Ecuador might comprise the best concentration of whitewater to be run year round anywhere in the world, it's a no brainier. From gear evaluation to reading water, technical paddling skills to rolling, knowledge of Ecuadorian rivers to what you need on a day by day basis, Alex is the man. I struggled for a couple seasons on dialing in my combat roll in whitewater...Alex was able to lead me down technical and big water class III/IV, evaluate my existing skill set, and nail down what I needed to perfect my roll and braces. Via practice drills, river running, mental exercises, and good time barbeques, I learned more from River People in three weeks than I did from others in over two years. I can't convey how valuable this is in the world of kayaking and whitewater boating if you want to progress and not unlearn other bad habits instilled by others. And to approach the entire curriculum from a mindset of safety while not taking advantage of valuable time and monetary resources...I had yet to come by that from other instructors. Whether you're trying to learn the basics of whitewater kayaking, build upon your existing experience, or grab firsthand beta from a renowned Ecuadorian river runner, I can't recommend Alex and his team enough.
